Polished plaster, also known as Tadelakt or Venetian plaster, is a luxurious and versatile decorative finish used in interior design. It gives an organic appearance, adding texture and warmth to interiors, and dries with a slight sheen for a marble-like finish. Traditional methods to create a Polished Plaster look involve applying multiple layers of a special plaster mixture, typically composed of lime, marble dust, and other natural additives, to create a smooth and highly polished surface. You can use Annie Sloan Polished Plaster to recreate this high-end finish in a matter of minutes. Simply apply to your surface, leave to dry, and voila!
Now...here are The Purple Painted Lady's additional thoughts about Polished Plaster....
Polished Plaster is a water-based paste which creates a polished plaster effect on walls and furniture. The finish created by Polished Plaster is very similar to Venetian Plaster.
You can use Polished Plaster to recreate the look of traditional Moroccan tadelakt plaster, authentic rustic Italian walls, or the shine of marble.
You may want to test applications of Polished Plaster to find the best method for your project and desired effect.
Surfaces should be cleaned, dried, and dust-free for application.
Polished Plaster can be applied as is or mixed with Chalk Paint®. If mixing, add small amounts of Chalk Paint ® at a time and test before use as varying amounts of Chalk Paint® vs Polished Plaster will affect the vibrancy, depth of coverage, adhesiveness, and sheen. The more Chalk Paint you add, the stronger the color and the more matte the finish. More paint than plaster is NOT recommended.
How to Use:
Use a scraper, palette knife, or trowel to apply Polished Plaster and then spread around in all directions. Clean your tools as you go, removing excess product.
Leave until slightly dry then use your scraping tool to level and smooth out the surface with the same spreading motion.
Allow to dry fully before applying a second coat of Polished Plaster. A helpful tip would be to wait for a few days in between coats. Polished plaster can expand and contract on wood surfaces resulting in cracking or peeling. It might be a happy accident if you are going for an old world finish. If not, take your time in between coats to reduce trapping moisture between layers.
Once fully dry you can buff the plaster with a clean scraper or trowel to give an added softness and shine.
Aftercare:
When applied on furniture, seal the Polished Plaster with Clear Chalk Paint® Wax or Chalk Paint® Lacquer to finish and protect. Wash tools with soap and warm water immediately after use. To maintain the finish, clean with a damp cloth and soapy water. Avoid Hard Chemicals.
