The Purple Painted Lady likes to use 320 grit sandpaper to lightly distress her painted surfaces to make them have more of a Shabby Chic or weathered-aged look.
Often people ask, "do you sand before or after applying clear wax?"
That answer depends on a few variables. Annie recommends sanding after applying clear wax and letting it dry since because:
1. It creates less dust since the paint and wax you are removing will stick more to the sandpaper.
2. Also if just starting out - the dried wax helps prevent someone from removing too much paint too quickly. No matter the case- always start out with a gentle hand.
Trish however, often distresses prior to applying wax to save on elbow grease. But keep in mind that when you distress prior to waxing, you will get a puddle of dust under your piece.
Trish cuts the 9? X 11? into smaller squares to make the sandpaper more manageable.
Use these Norton 320 Grit Fine Sandpaper Sheets (3-Pack) for a premium surface finish. The 9 in. x 11 in. sheets are made of aluminum oxide for great sanding and feature a zinc coating to help prevent color transfer.
