Glazing is the application of color over a pre-sealed or non porous surface. Meaning you need to have a top coat over your Chalk Paint® prior to using. We suggest either the General Finishes High Performance Top Coats or Gel Top Coat that we sell here on our on-line shopping cart.
Check out a beautiful piece using glaze over Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan completed by The Grateful Painter HERE=> http://www.thepurplepaintedlady.com/2015/04/chalk-paint-and-general-finishes-products-stunning-piece-by-nicki/ Most often associated with paint, ceramics or marble to add interest to an otherwise un-interesting surface, it can also be used to add depth or substantially change the color of your finish without obscuring the wood grain beneath.

The uses and application (or manipulation) of glaze are almost as endless as the results. General Finishes Glaze Effects are translucent water based glazes specially formulated to give you a longer open time in which to achieve the desired effect.
Use over any completely cured finish, let dry and then apply a topcoat to protect the glaze.Use any of the pre-colored glazes by themselves, mix and match or make your own with the clear base.
Translucent water based glazes
Specially formulated to give you a longer open time .
Use over any completely cured finish. NOTE the words "Completely Cured"- that is critical. So - for example if using over an oil based stain, we generally recommend 48-72 hour wait after your last
coat of oil based stain
before applying a water based product.
