Product Information: Glazing is the application of color over a pre-sealed or non porous surface. Meaning you need to have a top coat over your Chalk Paint® prior to using and it CANNOT BE WAX.  Glaze is not meant to go over wax.   We suggest either the General Finishes High Performance Top Coats or Gel Top Coat that we sell here on our on-line shopping cart.

If using GF Glaze Medium over Chalk Paint® - always seal your paint prior with General Finishes High Performance Top Coat and let fully dry.  Then use the General Finishes Glaze.  Basically, you make a sealer sandwich.

Adding General Finishes EXTENDER to your glaze will extend your open time to manipulate it.

Always seal your dried glaze with an additional coat of the General Finishes High Performance Top Coat.   DO NOT APPLY OVER ANNIE SLOAN WAX!  When using GF Glaze over Chalk Paint- YOU DO NOT APPLY OVER WAX or beneath. When using GF glaze- use it with the High Performance Top Coat only. The steps would be to seal the chalk paint with a coat of the High Performance FIRST and let dry. THEN....apply the glaze per directions. Let dry. Then- seal again with the HP Top Coat. We like to call this a "sealer sandwich."    The chalk paint is so porous that if you put the glaze directly on it- you will a hard time manipulating it and the chalk paint will absorb too much of the color.

We sell the "Extender" to extend the play time with General Finishes Glazes- which gives you more time to move and wipe them off.  Click HERE

Most often associated with paint, ceramics or marble to add interest to an otherwise un-interesting surface, it can also be used to add depth or substantially change the color of your finish without obscuring the wood grain beneath.

The uses and application (or manipulation) of glaze are almost as endless as the results. General Finishes Glaze Effects are translucent water based glazes specially formulated to give you a longer open time in which to achieve the desired effect.

Use over any completely cured finish, let dry and then apply a topcoat to protect the glaze.

Use over any completely cured finish.  NOTE the words "Completely Cured"- that is critical.  So - for example if using over an oil based stain, we generally recommend 48-72 hour wait after your last coat of oil based stain before applying a water based product.

Use any of the pre-colored glazes by themselves, mix and match or make your own with the clear base. We are sorry – there are NO RETURNs when it comes to paint. You will find this for every stockist. Think about it- would you ever want a quart of paint sent to you - that was shipped to someone else prior? We eliminate any potential issues with this policy. With that said- we apologize for any issues this may cause. Choose wisely and do not spontaneously purchase a color if unsure. OK? In fact- if you need help in deciding- ask us. We are here to help you! : )
